The Lunch That Changed Everything

It started with a simple lunch where two IT professionals with nearly 20 years of experience realized that quality oil matters as much as fitness and nutrition. Frustrated by adulterated, compromised oils flooding the market, Sohini and Kalapriya decided to do it themselves—sourcing from trusted farms, partnering with dedicated pressers, and refusing every shortcut. Kani oils are born from that refusal to accept "good enough" when something you consume daily deserves to be extraordinary.

Genesis of Kani Oils

It began with a simple lunch among colleagues, including Sohini and Kalapriya—two IT professionals with nearly twenty years of experience. The conversation naturally drifted toward health, fitness, and nutrition. But mid-meal, a striking realization halted the table: while everyone obsessed over the quality of the vegetables on their plates, no one questioned the oil cooking them. Despite consuming 10 to 20 milliliters of it every single day, oil remained a massive, unexamined blind spot in everyone’s health routine.

The deeper they dug, the more uncomfortable the truth became. Premium nuts and seeds are expensive, yet supermarket shelves are flooded with impossibly cheap oils. The math didn't add up, exposing a grim reality of mass-market products being heavily processed and adulterated for profit. Tired of these compromised options, Sohini and Kalapriya decided they couldn't wait for the industry to change. To bring true purity to this everyday essential, they would have to change it themselves.

That lunch table conversation became the genesis of Kani Oils—born from a refusal to accept "good enough" for something consumed daily. They chose to control the entire journey, sourcing directly from trusted farms with pristine soil and partnering with dedicated, artisanal pressers who understand how to extract oil while preserving its natural nutrients and integrity.

Every bottle of Kani is a direct continuation of that original lunch. It is a promise that someone cared enough about your wellbeing to reject every shortcut, proving that while fitness and whole foods matter, the purity of your daily oil matters just as much.

A quality oil isn't just a commodity; it's a promise. It's a commitment. It's saying to someone, "I care about your health enough to do this right."

Supporting their Mothers in their pursuit to provide the oil's in their finest form are Sohini and Kalapriya.

Sohini’s journey to founding Kani Oils is a beautiful intersection of analytical precision and deep-rooted heart. Coming from a background in technology, she spent years cultivating a mindset that is structured, precise, and intensely detail-driven. When she transitioned into the world of culinary wellness, she brought that exact same engineering rigor with her.

For Sohini, Kani Oils is the realization of a core belief passed down by those who inspired her: the deeply held conviction that we must create things that are honest, meaningful, and true.

"Here, purity is not just a word; it's a responsibility. It is the foundation that defines everything we create."

-Sohini, in her own words

Combining two decades of IT expertise with a deeply rooted farming heritage, Kalapriya is on a mission to support her mother in providing 100% pure, natural oils. Growing up in a traditional agricultural family, she spent her childhood traveling by cart to local sekku (traditional cold-press mills), where 90% of the oil her family consumed was entirely homemade. Today, while actively supporting her parents in cultivating seasonal crops like groundnuts, sesame seeds, bajra, and urad, she is leveraging her tech-savvy background to preserve these time-tested traditions and pass the gift of pure, unadulterated wellness on to the modern world.
